SUNDAY NIGHT SLIDES
Over the past 6 months, I've been studying and analysing in practice, what makes someone adaptable. One of the most influential drivers for this is their ability to 'unlearn' existing beliefs, embrace tension between ideas and then relearn new beliefs.
Worrying then (as research has discovered) that by the age of 25 our brains tend to get lazy – or 'efficient'. But it's not that our gray matter isn't able to learn new things, rather due to the overwhelmingly stimulating lives we lead, we have to rely on a set number of neural pathways to do our thinking for us.
And over the years, those neural pathways sink deeper until they're embedded and make it really difficult to become unstuck.
Want a brain hack for controlling stimulation?
Breathing.
I rely on three techniques (depending on the situation) called Water, Whisky and Coffee. Use them when you need to:
Water for balance – inhale through your nose 4 seconds and then out through your nose 4 seconds. This keeps your brain 'hydrated' and is for use throughout the day as an effective leveller. Complete 5–10 rounds at 11am and 3pm.
Whisky for relaxation – inhale through your nose 4 seconds and then slowly out through your nose 8 seconds. This, like whisky, should be used in moderation and is mainly used as a sleep aid at night. Repeat until you fall asleep.
Coffee for energy – 20 sharp nasal exhales in a row (feel it in your stomach) to focus your mind and stimulate your brain. Also to be used in moderation for its impact on our nervous system. Only to be used in the morning or pre-exercise.
Embrace the energy building up to the full moon this Friday.

WORTH WATCHING
A real and inspiring outdoor adventure doco that follows the story of two childhood friends taking on the challenge of hiking the infamously challenging Pacific Crest Trail (all 2,000+ miles of it) from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon and Washington state. Driven by the notion of this philosophy: carry only what you need and take pleasure in your surroundings and the people you meet along the way. A fitting tale as we reduce our impact on Earth.
