Back down to Earth this week. Kind of.Wednesday saw the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and, for those who aren't aware or haven't read Sally's article on ways to take action, the day originated from a reaction to a devastating oil spill that killed thousands of animals along the coast of California.Rather fitting then, that this week the price of oil fell dramatically below $0 a barrel, wiping an incalculable amount off market value (having been over $80 a barrel less than 2 years ago). Mother Nature's middle finger?Wednesday also coincided with the first lunar phase after a full orbit – the New Moon. When the moon is at its darkest; encouraging time to reflect on prior happenings, take learnings, and make plans for a better future. Symbolising a new beginning. So whilst the world slows down and gives her a chance to breathe, now, more than ever, is the opportunity to make generation-defining decisions on energy production to turn the tides. Some of the smartest thinkers of our times are backing carbon-free advanced nuclear energy that already provides ~20% of electricity in the United States. But that's just one of a few low-carbon power options and is in need of innovation before it's truly regarded as sustainable.Education is key.Children are the future.
